Contact Lenses

Almost everyone can be fitted with contact lenses tailored to their specific visual and lifestyle needs. Contact lenses offer the advantage of correcting your vision without the need for frames on your face, making them ideal for daily wear or special occasions. They're also perfect for most sporting and recreational activities where glasses might not be practical.

Contact lenses come in single vision or multifocal designs, as well as options for daily disposables or extended wear. We offer both soft and rigid gas permeable (hard) lenses, depending on your eye shape and needs. Additionally, we provide cosmetic coloured contact lenses for a unique look.

A contact lens examination at Torquay Eyecare includes measuring your vision and prescription, assessing the shape of your cornea (the front surface of the eye), and fitting contact lens trials. Once we have your trial lenses, we will guide you through the process of inserting, removing, cleaning, and caring for your lenses to ensure optimal eye health and comfort.

We always recommend having a backup pair of spectacles to give your eyes a break from contact lens wear.

A Contact Lens Consult Step by Step

  • Vision

Our initial sessions will be dedicated to assessing your current vision and prescription and discussing your lifestyle and visual needs.

  • Shape

Eyes come in all shapes and sizes so the next step is to measure the curvature of your cornea to find the best fitting contact lens. We do this by taking a photo/scan of the front surface of your eye which is quick and non-invasive.

  • Fit and teach

Lastly, we fit trial contact lenses on your eyes and teach you how to insert and remove the lenses before sending you home with your trial lenses. Once you and the optometrist are happy with vision, fit and handling we can order your final contact lenses.

If you have any feelings of irritation it is best to book back in with your optometrist who may recommend a different lens or possibly lubricating drops.

  • No, contact lenses cannot get stuck behind your eye. Very rarely a contact lens might dislodge and get stuck under your top eyelid however your optometrist can assist in retrieving the lens.
